still here and still playing rugby
hey hey hey!
k - so does sorry cut it? probably not. i've been pretty much the CRAPPIEST blogger on the face of the earth...why? well i could say it was school...which wouldn't necessarily be untrue...i've only got three classes but they've probably got the most combined work that i've EVER experienced...i could say work but that would just be a lie...but i could say rugby which wouldn't be far from the truth because we've been working a little tails off to get to nationals and guess what...it's worked! let me give you a little history lesson so that you can get a little glimpse into what this means to me.
I started playing for the U of L Pronghorns in 2000. i was a very young player (only been playing a year at Trinity Western) and we did terrible...lost to everybody and their dogs. i played flank...because that's where all players who don't know anything about the game play. Canada West was in Victoria (remember this for later). we lost to u of a - they got 1st.
2001 - still playing for the pronghorns. Canada West was in Vancouver at UBC. Except in the program they put that we were the Longhorns...and i was made into a hooker...but not the scantily clad type. the number on my back was 2. we lost all but 1 game placing 3rd in the tournement. we lost to u of a - they got first.
2002 - interesting year...but for reasons that i will not state here i did not compete as an athlete this year. i took a year off and trained the team. Canada West was in Edmonton and we placed 2nd! but we lost to u of a (twice) - they got first.
2003 - it was a good year. Canada West was in Victoria. I played prop and we got 2nd in the tournement - we lost again to u of a (twice) - they got first...BUT because u of a was hosting nationals we got to go to nationals...I got a Canada West all star and at nationals...we got 2nd...u of a got first.
2004 - We host Canada West. i played prop. we had a terrible round robin and lost to UBC and u of a and got 3rd in the tournement. u of a got first.
u of a also won nationals from 1999-2003. ugh.
this however is not the u of a show and it's not where the story ends.
2007 - courtney comes back to play for the u of l. i play prop. Canada West is in Victoria...yup where it all began...full circle. it's gruelling tournement but we beat u of a in the final. THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER BEEN ON THE PRONGHORNS AND WE FINALLY BEAT THEM!!! this is a big deal. and i got a Canada West All Star. i guess this old girl can still play.
so we're going to nationals. next week to London Ontario!!! i'm super stoked. but you're probably wondering what the pictures are. they're of my 5th finger (pinky) on my right hand. 5 minutes before our final against u of a in our last warm up drill i went down on the ball and yup...dislocated my pinky. it was 90 degrees pointed back at me (middle knuckle) and twisted. i had to go through 3 coaches and the other team's trainer to put it back straight and taped so it wouldn't move. i barely made it back onto the field by kick off but i played the whole game!! and i never cried, complained, yelped, NOTHING when they were pulling on it. i think it has to be my toughest moment ever.
anyways - all to say and more that i'm back and there was a semi-legit reason why i was gone for so long.
peace out - cort
