jus' kick it

hey!

look at me go...it's like two posts in a month. that's gotta be something like a record or something. well - good things have been going on since we last talked...let's talk about current events...okay - not-so current events anymore because it's been almost two weeks since they won. on November the 8th the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Rugby Team won their third straight CIS National Title. This was the first season in the history of the team that they went undefeated (i mean - last year they lost only one game). the picture is of my best friend Janice who i played with in 2007 (she's my favourite prop)...and i'm wearing my original jersey from our first years as Pronghorns (circa 2001...we actually started the team in 2000 but we used the Lethbridge Rugby Clubs jerseys that year...baby blue jerseys with royal blue and gold socks...hot). i flew out to Vancouver and watched them play in the finals against St. Francis Xavier - who put a very courageous front against a very tried and tested squad. I watched a large portion of their games this year and they were definitely at the top of their game. i am still very much connected to the team and probably will always be a huge supporter of that program because the coaches and the players are so committed to developing not only fantastic rugby players but people who will strive for excellence in every part of their lives. it also helps that there was still about 2/3rd of the team that were playing this year that i played with when we first won Nationals back in 2007. it was so good to see them play. but the victory is not without a bitter taste as their starting hooker, and CIS All-Canadian Ashley MacDonald took a tackle with 15 minutes to go in the game and broke her leg. Ashley was scheduled to leave for France three days later to play two test matches with the Senior Women's Rugby team. she unfortunately had to remain back because of the injury and i'm hoping and praying that she will heal quickly so that she can regain her position to represent Canada next summer for the World Cup. we're cheering for you Ash Mac!

speaking of the NSWT (National Senior Women's Team)...they beat france in their first test 14-5 on wednesday. they play their next match tomorrow (saturday) which will probably be the harder of the two matches. between U of L, playing for bc, alberta, and way back with U23 in 2004 i have played with a large majority of the women on the NSWT and i hope that they can come out on top against france. good luck ladies!

next up...new hobby. i think i may have mentioned it before but i now compete in TAEKWONDO! oh my goodness - it's so much fun. but it's been hard at times because it's been a long time since i was completely new at something. i've been in two tournaments so far. my first getting silver in my patterns and gold in sparring (i beat a yellow and a green belt for the gold...those are one and two belts higher than me respectively). then my second tournament this last weekend i got silver in both the patterns and sparring.

it's been so great and i love doing it. it's very exciting to learn again and to struggle with skills. i've learnt a lot of how i deal with not being able to 'get' something right away. here's a picture:

i love the people and i love competing again. don't get me wrong - rugby will always be my first love when it comes to sports but it's so nice to be able to compete again. i've been told that i still have the skill and still the age to push it with rugby but i actually don't want to turn my life upside down to play at a level that i didn't even find fun. i liked it but it's not what God has set out for me to do. i still love it - and i love coaching it too. i'm pretty happy about life right now...and kicking people - it's so much fun.

anyways, that's all from me right now.

peace out.
