six nations

I mentioned this yesterday so I am going to follow through. In addition to the SuperXV, the Six Nations is also going on. The Six Nations is an annual tournament between France, Italy, England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. Much like the Tri-Nations...except the Tri-Nations is awesome and the Six Nations is mokay. Mokay is the term I use for the balance of meh and okay. It's mokay - not great but it's better than watching the Guiness Premiership or Rugby League.

There were three games that went on yesterday and all were somewhat predictable outcomes. Yesterday was the most evenly matched games across the board...with that said - I rea
lly wish [and it's hard to hear myself say this] that France had shown up to Twickenham to play. Here we go:

England (17) vs. Franc
e (9)
I really, really don't like Engla
nd but France is not much better. It's like picking between bad body odour and skunk smell. England won the 2003 World Cup by the skin on Jonny Wilkinson's teeth. Seriously though...had they not had Jonny - they would have lost. There was a game in that tournament where England beat France 27-0 and all 27 points came from Wilkinson's kicks. Barf. And Johnny Wilkinson is the only person that is a contender for the record of Most Points Ever Scored Internationally...Dan Carter will reign supreme on that one. Johnny doesn't have enough gas in his tank to drive that distance...especially when he's not even playing full games right now.

With that said, France is the first team to make the All Blacks dress in silver and not black. I will hate them forever for that.

The game was moderately entertaining. The French are quite flamboyant and hard hitting. I'm a pretty big fan of one of their props, Domingo. He's a brick house. Sebastian Chabal started which was a little surprising. They normally leave him for the impact sub at 50 minutes. He's an animal on the field but not very consistent. France honestly looked worn down and exhausted by minute 60. You can't step onto a field and expect to beat England if you can't make it 80 minutes. France - you'd better hit the gym soon because September is a-comin' and nobody is going to have mercy on you there.

Needless to say, France sucked it and England won. They're that much closer now to winning the Six Nations. I'm still cheering for Ireland.

Italy (16) vs. Wales (24)
In spite of the score - this was actually a closer game that I thought it woul
d be. Italy very nearly walked away from it. But there's something not quite functional about Italy. It's like they're the fancy sports cars that are produced in their country...nice to look at and they go real fast but when it comes to actually functioning in real life...they just can't hack it.

And then there's Wales - who have the skill on the field to do well. It's like they have all this bottled potential but the jar never gets opened. They're just a pile of never-going-to-be-actualized-potential. Sucks to be them.

Ireland (21) vs. Scotland (18)
Yes, I'm scottish. Yes, I
the first international jersey I owned was Scotland's. No, I don't cheer for them. They have no heart. I can love a team that has heart but sucks. I can't love a team that can't even get together as a group and decide that they will show up to fight.

With that said...Ireland only won by 3 when they should have won by 15 or 20. Scotland looked pretty run ragged by the end of the game. They'll finish 5th...possibly even 6th if they're not careful with Italy. The Italy that showed up to play Wales yesterday will beat Scotland.
