there and back again

i just spent the last week in saskatchewan. my annual trip to briercrest, millar, and bethany in search of camp staff to chase, play, and love on kids this coming summer. overall it was a very successful tour (at least that's how it feels...i guess we'll see when the applications start coming in). a HUGE shoutout goes to becs for all her hard work...and for helping to lead worship on the sunday night we arrived. she is one phenomenal girl who has been blessed with the ability to lead people in worship through music. wowzers.

i don't know if you remember last year (i don't even think i did a po
st about it...it was that upsetting). the roads were some of the worst i've ever driven (save for the trip home from breakforth the same year and my journey to BC in 2008). it was the kind of roads where your palms stay sweaty and crampy on the steering wheel and you have to keep reminding yourself every 30 seconds to have soft hands because any larger movement would send you into the ditch. we had 10 ft. of visibility and the only way to know where you were was to try and see the road signs at the exact moment you passed them.

let's just say that the roads were infinitely better this year. the only sketchy part was 60km outside of caronport and a few patches on the way to saskatoon on wednesday. i'm just so SO happy to be home and to have survived all of the driving over the last week.

here's the roadtrip count:

...one and a half jugs of windshield wiper fluid
...3 tires that needed air repeatedly
...7 hrs of texting
...1 karate lesson care of gary pryzner
...4 different sleeping accommodations
...12 bathroom breaks (estimation)
...15 litres of coffee consumed (that's only counting me)
...3 starbucks visits (would have been more but saskatchew
an, oddly enough, doesn't have very many)
...1 abandoned and then reclaimed wallet
...7 buckets of cookies distributed (that's 390 cookies)
...21.5hrs of driving
...40 hrs recruiting

on the second last stretch of driving i finally made a rule that everyone would dance as much as they texted which resulted in emily dancing for an hour and a half straigh
t. becca paced herself. but the first hour was filled with utter ridiculousness. i quite enjoyed it causing me to really wonder...what if...

what if we all danced as much as we texted...or facebooked? what if we were to spend our moments when we're with people actually engaging with the people who are present with us. what if we danced as much as we texted or messaged (for all of us blackberry folk). i wonder how that would transform our relationships from "lonely straight roads" to complete abandon and real moments.
well - that's all for now. i did mean to blog last week while i was on the road but i ended up stashing the phone for the most part and just spent the time in the moment with the people that were present. and it was fantastic. i'm looking forward to the next roadtrip...which i'm starting to plan because it's been too long...

peace out
