upsets and earthquakes

Well - it's been a week and we're back to SupeRugby day at the Slate. It's been a pretty eventful weekend with all the games going on but the schedule changed a bit with the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand earlier this week. The Hurricanes were scheduled to play the Crusaders but the game has been put on hold as the result of the quake. Christchurch, understandably, was left in ruins. There are hundreds injured and over two hundred dead. Rugby games across the world joined in a moment of silent this week to remember the dead and injured. Our prayers are with the people of Christchurch and Canterbury as they work through the aftermath.

Let's start with the weekend's upset.

Rebels (25) vs Brumbies (24)
First ever SuperXV win and at home to top it all off [the crowd was simply electric]...The Rebels who got hammered on by the Waratahs last week took it to the Brumbies. The Brumbies had a very solid first half but the second half was back and forth and looked like the Rebels were going to take it but there was this sense that the Brumbies would not tolerate losing...they came back and took the lead only losing by a penalty kick in dying seconds of
the game. One of those things called momentum and everything changes.

Pat McCabe (#15) from the Brumbies was stellar though. Going on run after run in the beginning minutes of the game. Danny Ciprian
i, in my opinion is a pre-madonna and a barbie doll. Danny - you're in the big leagues now, time to suck it up.

Highlanders (23) vs Chiefs (13)

Again - What ON earth is going on here?!? First the Highlanders beat the Hurri
canes last week and now the Chiefs? Between the Chiefs and the Hurricanes - you can basically field 75% of the All Blacks. On the Highlanders...maybe 3 players could make the current team? I guess it shows you what team has the heart to fight every battle.

Great thing though...where did Stephen Donald play this game? THE BENCH! How happy
was I? Very. Mike Delany started at 10 and hopefully he'll be a keeper. He played really well. Thompson and Robbie Robinson both played super...Robinson's breaks were just awesome.

Blue Bulls (25) vs Cheetahs (23)

This is another one of those g
ames that didn't end up in an upset but very well could have. The Cheetahs could have pulled off the impossible which would have been fantastic on their home turf but alas...I don't know if the Bulls would have ever allowed it. And this was after Juan Smith (captain) of the Cheetahs was taken off the field with a partially ruptured Achilles in the first 2min. We're going to have to watch the Cheetahs and perhaps the Bulls...one is perhaps going to exceed their potential [Cheetahs] or fall WAY short of it [Bulls].

Report on other games:
Stormers (19
) vs Lions (16)
Sharks (26) vs Blues (12)

Waratahs (30) vs Reds (6) *I think we're going to need to watch the Tahs...They seem to have it together this season. Not my favourite thought but it would be better than having the Bulls take it again.

Six Nation games are on today so let's keep hoping that Ireland pulls through and England and France make some fatal mistakes.

peace out
.:bear:.
